Those bowls are fantastic! Where did you get them?
Gretchen, I am glad you like the bowls.
I got them in a Japanese store at the Pacific Mall, north of Toronto. The bowls each have this awesome snap on lid. The packaging was all in Japanese - and I have thrown it out.
If you live in the Toronto area I can give you more details about where the store is in the mall, or I can see if Paul remembers the name.
No such luck, I'm in near D.C. in Virginia. BUT, just knowing that they came from a Japanese store is helpful. I love the lids. Although the bowls themselves are gorgeous, the fact that they have lids nearly made me swoon. I know, High Drama over bowls, but that's just how I am. The container store here has some smaller bowls in solid colors from Bee House I think, that has lids that are similar. The Japanese are fantastic at making beautiful, functional, and space saving items for the home. We should take that lesson around here and start living in smaller houses instead of the huge houses that are being built in our area. Oh, no, I've started the drama again... Have a great day!

Lucky you. I've searched all over Vancouver, BC and without any luck.
I love the bowls, they're gorgeous, but the vanilla breaks my heart. :)

Homemade vanilla is oh so easy. Get some great vanilla beans (buy the pricer ones - its worth it). Get a bottle of good vodka and put the whole vanilla beans inside - let it sit for at least 2 months. I also sliced a few of the beans open. I made a bunch of small bottles and gave them out as holiday gifts...people loved it. Just keep adding more vodka as you use your vanilla - it will last forever. I started my bottle in 2002 and added more beans about 2-3 yrs ago for an added kick. It's really amazing.
That cookie looks just like the kind of soft chewy one I'd like to make - do you have a recipe?
